Background and experience
As a generalist, I have a broad interest in various subjects. My bachelors in Sociology and International Relations at the University of Groningen and masters in Global Business & Sustainability at the Erasmus University Rotterdam have given me a broad education and taught me to look at social problems in an analytical way.
During my master I wrote my thesis for Stichting Commonland on how their large-scale landscape restoration projects could be financed with more private funding. Although I had hardly been involved in sustainable agriculture and financing until then, I found the subject so interesting that I wanted to pursue it further.
At Rabobank I worked for 4 years on Acorn: a start-up that helps small-scale farmers in developing countries plant trees, make a transition to a food forest system and generate carbon credits as an additional source of income. I felt like a fish in water: working with driven colleagues on a new, complex and socially relevant topic. Within Acorn I started setting up a fund of 130 million to pre-finance the projects with various impact financiers. Here I learned a lot about financial structures, blended finance, carbon credits, business cases, setting up a fund, strategy and stakeholder management.
